Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237)

The Rosette Nebula was one of the first really big projects where I felt: “Okay, now it’s getting serious.”

What is the Rosette Nebula?

The Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237) is an emission nebula in the constellation Monoceros. Because of its round shape, it looks like a giant rose. In the center lies an open star cluster (NGC 2244), whose young stars illuminate the surrounding hydrogen gas.

What Surprised Me

I didn’t expect how much structure you can already capture with a small smart telescope. The dark lanes and fine filaments were already visible in the raw data.

Why I Still Like This Image

Because it’s mine. Because I captured it under normal conditions. It’s an honest image — and that’s exactly why I like it.
